SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES St. Louis Park is looking for Certified Lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors to work in our swim program. We offer lessons to all ages and abilities, open swim times, private swim lessons, and group rentals. We are looking for people that are energetic, reliable, responsible, and can communicate well with the public. This role involves the instruction in technical skills, choreography, endurance, and teamwork while fostering a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Ensure the safety of all in and around the pool area.
- Enforce all school, and pool facility rules and guidelines.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented environment.
- Preserves a safe environment for patrons.
- Maintains pool security.
- Makes rescues when needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES - Communicate with students and adults.
- Be on time.
- Strong team-building skills to create a supportive and positive environment.
- Able to interact well with the public.
- Must be able to swim long distances and tread water for extended periods.
- Ability to perform rescues, carry individuals, and handle emergency situations.
- Required to react instantly to potential dangers or drowning incidents.
- Knows how to perform water rescues, spinal injury management, and proper lifeguarding procedures.
- Constantly monitor swimmers and identify hazards before they become emergencies.
- Is able to give firm but polite directions to swimmers.
- Handles disputes or rule violations calmly and professionally.

- Swim and tread water for extended periods.

- Physical stamina to stand, walk, or move around the pool deck for long durations.
- Strength to assist struggling swimmers and respond to emergency situations if needed.

- Exposure to warm and humid pool environments for prolonged periods.
- Frequent wet conditions, requiring proper footwear and mobility.
- Possible exposure to chlorine and other pool chemicals.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - Lifeguard Certification required
- Red Cross WSI Certification or Lifeguard Certification
- Pool security
